Bacterial Vaginosis

Caused when normal balance of bacteria in vagina is disrupted and is replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria

Transmission

  • Vaginal intercourse
  • Having a new sex partner or multiple sex partner
  • Douching

 

Signs/Symptoms

  • Strong unpleasant vaginal odor
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Burning during urination
  • Itching around the outside of the vagina

 

Treatment

  • Antibiotics and antimicrobial creams

 

Prevention

  • Be abstinent
  • Limit the number of sex partners
  • Do not douche

Use all the medicine prescribed for treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis even if the signs and symptoms go away.
