Rhythm Method

This method of birth control consists of abstaining from sexual intercourse when a woman is ovulating. When ovulation takes place, this is the woman’s fertile period. It usually happens in the middle days between periods. In a 28 day menstrual cycle, ovulation occurs approximately on the 14th day after the first day of menstruation. The moment of ovulation varies for each woman. You should not have sexual intercourse three days before and after ovulation.

Some signs that ovulation is occurring are crystalline cervical mucus in the vagina, abdominal cramps. You need to know your body very well to be able to practice this method effectively.

Pros:

  • You can use this method when there is no other contraceptive method available.
  • No secondary effects.
  • Free.

Cons:

  • It’s not 100% safe to prevent pregnancy
  • You need a lot of self-discipline
  • Does not protect against STD or AIDS.
  • Woman must have a regular menstrual cycle.
  • It’s not recommended for teenagers because their sexual encounters are not planned.
